The Challenge
The bank operated on a 20-year-old COBOL core banking system that severely limited its ability to offer digital services. Any system change required weeks of testing and maintenance windows that impacted operations. The Solution
BeeWorks designed a phased migration that kept the COBOL core operational throughout the process. A .NET microservices layer was developed to act as a bridge between legacy systems and new digital channels. A team of 12 BeeWorks developers worked alongside the bank's internal team, adopting Azure as the cloud infrastructure. The strategy prioritized stability over speed: each migrated module was validated in parallel for weeks before the final cutover.
Results
The migration was completed with zero unplanned downtime. The bank was able to launch its mobile application three months after the final go-live, with a user experience the previous systems could not have sustained. Infrastructure maintenance costs were reduced by 35%, and the bank's internal team gained the knowledge necessary to continue development autonomously.
